Artist's Comments

I don't know what I can say about this. It's open to your own interpretations, which I would love to hear. The issue of HIV/AIDS and the way it affects people is an issue very close to my heart. Please, take some time and visit websites like [link] to learn more about this disease.

Acrylic on board, roughly 2 x 2.5 ft, various body and scenery photographic references from google images, idea by me. I can't judge the time on this, it's taken me forever.

Crit if you want, but I rushed it at the end.

EDIT: I've taken off the Ideologically Sensitive filter because this is a lot more damn tame than what you can find on the most popular page of this website with the tag 'AIDS'. I'm sickened by the disgusting humour surrounding AIDS by people who call themselves artists. Deviations showing people playing 'AIDS tag', and a man celebrating AIDS day by getting friendly with a monkey? And these are among the most popular deviations with that title. They're not all like that, most are thoughtful and address the issue. But some are disgusting. I fear to type the words 'CANCER' into the search engine and find the same thing, but I know I won't because Cancer is serious and AIDS a joke, right?

I've lost quite a bit of faith in the human race.

This composition... makes me think so much about everything. The way we treat others... we have to put ourselves in another's shoes sometimes.

This is amazing and so deep! Thank you for making it!

Same here :(

The picture shows really good how society treats affected people... That they leave them out, and treat them as if they were murderers... The atmosphere is cold which isn't criticism - I like it, since it fits to this picture.

That's an impressive painting Iris, and I wish there were more people like you who spend so much thought and effort on such projects.

And you're not alone, when you think that the human race is becoming more and more ruthless.. (Is this the right word?)

Thanks very much for the comment. I'm glad it makes people think like that.
And wow, you're welcome! :)
:iconirispirate:
Of course, and your art isn't crappy dear :)

Glad to help :D
:iconirispirate:
That's exactly what I was thinking as I painted. And you flatter me!
That is the right word, and I agree. Thanks for the comment, dear!

Ah, I love the expression upon that front man's face, as if he's completely indifferent. I hope art like this will open the eyes to people acting just that way - indifferently. So many people suffer and dies from AIDs, and it won't be stopped by itself.
Great work!
